Life Group Questions
Finding the One
Read Genesis 29 - 30:1
- What stands out to you?
- What do you think life was like for Jacob? For Leah? For Rachel?
- Which character do you relate to the most? Who do you sympathise with?
Discuss
Each of the characters were looking for fulfillment:
- Jacob was looking to sexual intimacy.
- Leah was looking to marriage.
- Rachel was looking to children.
Where are the places that you go to for fulfillment?
Fill in the sentence: "If __________ then I will feel fulfilled."
Sometimes the good things in our lives can become idols when we make them the ultimate thing in our lives.
In Genesis 29:35 we learn that Leah found fulfillment in God: she gave birth to a fourth son and said, "This time I will praise the Lord;" so she named him Judah. (A side note: Jesus is from the line of Judah).
Complete fulfillment is found in God. He is the one we are looking for. He is the one who completes us.
Experience
Brad shared this quote from Ben Stuart:
"If you are in Christ, the most beautiful and powerful being in existence cherishes you. He knows your name. He sees you. He gave it all to make you His. He will never give up on you."
Read this to yourself slowly. Break into smaller groups and speak it over each other by name. Let it sink in.
How do you feel hearing that Jesus cherishes you? Do you believe it?
How does believing that you're cherished by Jesus impact your life?
Prayer:
Here is the prayer that Brad shared at the end of his talk.
"You Lord are the only one who can ever make me happy. No spouse, no friend, no job, no amount of money could ever fill the hole inside of me that is made for you. You are more than enough for me, and yet my heart is still prone to wander. Guard my eyes and mid from being preoccupied with anyone or anything beside you. Capture my heart again and secure it against all of Satan's lies."
Take some time with God to confess to Him places where you go for fulfillment, other than Him.
Quieten your heart to allow the Holy Spirit to speak with you.
Ask God if there is any next step He'd like you to take.
